FREEDOM FROM OVEREATING: DAY 39

Hi ladies

Here is to two more steps before we’ve reached the promised land.

Before we enter the promised land, there’s one thing I want to talk to you beauties about: Expectations.

Having expectations are good. In church community, we’re taught to have expectation to allow Jesus to surpass the expectations. It makes space for Jesus to work in. However, sometimes we’re scared to have expectations. We’ve been disappointed one too many times and therefore, we’ve decided to not have any expectations in certain areas. I’ve been there and sometimes, I still find myself in that place.

Other times, though, our expectations limit God’s ability and capability. I’ve been there too. Way too many times, actually. I’ve placed God in a box for a long time, expecting Him to be controlled by my wishes. I used to treat Him like the genie in the lamp from the Disney movie Aladdin.

One thing I’ve learned through my journey, is that God doesn’t work the same with every person. He’s certainly a personal God, knowing your heart’s needs, hurts and deepest shame.

This reminds me of the woman at the well (John 4:1-26). Jesus didn’t only speak to this woman, He spoke to her heart. Although His words may seem harsh to us in verse 17-18, it wasn’t harsh to that specific woman. The way Jesus acknowledge a Samaritan woman, speaking to her and telling her about God, resulted in multiple people devoting their lives to God (John 4:39-42).

In our hardships we usually only stare into one single outcome: our outcome. Having tunnel-vision makes it harder to acknowledge what God does when He shows up and exceed our expectations. Sometimes we miss the miracle in the moment.

Walking into the promised land, I want to encourage you ladies to ask God to take the blindfold off from your eyes so that it may expand your view. He has more in store for you, just like He had more in store for me in this 40 day journey.

Lots of love

Inge xx
