FREEDOM FROM OVEREATING: DAY 31

Hi ladies

During my 40 day journey, I’ve been speaking a lot about surrendering to God and allowing Him to take control. What does it really look like? How does one simply surrender?

Take a moment to read John 12: 1-3.

1 Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 3 Then Mary took about a pint (or about 1.5 liter) of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

Martha served and Mary poured out the expensive anointing oil.

I love hosting people at my house because of my servant heart. I love making delicious dishes and feeding people.I am a giver. Martha and Mary was too. Martha surely prepared the best dishes fit for a king, to serve Jesus with. Imagine the aroma in that house created by Martha’s cooking. I’m sure it was easy for Martha to serve Jesus the way she did, as she was used to cook and serve others.

She poured out that anointing oil on Jesus’s feet and served Him.

Mary on the other hand, served the Lord in a different way. She gave her most priced belonging to Jesus. I struggle with that. Before my current 40 day Overeating journey, I used to hate sharing food. To me, food was my most priced belonging. I remember buying a mouth-watering brownie at a church conference the one day and when I was about to eat it, a little baby girl came up to me, wanting a piece. My old selfish-self pretended not see it and ate a piece, enjoying my brownie. Mary was the complete opposite of me. She poured out that anointing oil on Jesus’s feet and served Him.

This is the greatest picture of surrender. Despite having knowledge of the worth of this alabaster jar filled with anointing oil, Mary surrendered it to God. She chose eternal worth above earthly worth. She became a servant to Jesus, sitting at His feet, allowing Him to pour His teaching into her and out of that (Luke 10:39), she poured her praise onto Him by surrendering this priced possession.

Jesus turns graves into gardens.

When I learned to surrender my food, my cravings and my need for a quick-fix was gone. I found eternal treasure in Jesus. I found peace in Him alone and His delight restored my selfish heart.

I want to challenge you ladies to take time today to listen to ‘Alabaster Heart’ from Bethel Music & Kalley. Allow Jesus to show you a glimpse of what He wants to accomplish in your heart when you trust Him enough to surrender.

Lots of love,

Inge xx
