Hey Ladies,
…He called a little child to him and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me…(Matthew 18:3-5)
When we act out of obedience towards our Heavenly Father, it isn’t a sign of weakness, but rather a sign of love and trust. As a child we tend to be more obedient because we react out of a place of contentment and love. So, when Jesus said we should become like children, he might have been referring to a fragile and eager heart, willing to learn and obey. To obey can be seen as a way of submitting to another’s authority.
But what does wisdom have to do with obedience? When we look at how God sees obedience, we will understand that it is an act of being wise. God favours obedience over sacrifice (Hosea 6:6) and when we feel more comfortable to obey Him, our wisdom will grow out of reverence for Him.
To be wise is simply not the same as having knowledge, knowing facts and truths. Wisdom, especially God’s wisdom (spiritual wisdom) is when one applies the knowledge by knowing what is good and practicing it into one’s everyday life.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him… (James 1:5)
Just as it says in the book of James, we should recognize that spiritual wisdom is something that we need and can receive as a gift from our Heavenly Father. We just have to ask Him and receive. We are daughters of the most High King and should walk boldly in that authority, living in obedience as an act love.
Take time to read this passage intentionally and then reflect on it (SOAP method):
13 If you consider yourself to be wise and one who understands the ways of God, advertise it with a beautiful, fruitful life guided by wisdom’s gentleness. Never brag or boast about what you’ve done, and you’ll prove that you’re truly wise. 14 But if there is bitter jealousy or competition hiding in your heart, then don’t deny it and try to compensate for it by boasting and being phony. 15 For that has nothing to do with God’s heavenly wisdom but can best be described as the wisdom of this world, both selfish and devilish.16 So wherever jealousy and selfishness are uncovered, you will also find many troubles and every kind of meanness
17 But the wisdom from above is always pure, filled with peace, considerate and teachable. It is filled with love and never displays prejudice or hypocrisy in any form 18 and it always bears the beautiful harvest of righteousness! Good seeds of wisdom’s fruit will be planted with peaceful acts by those who cherish making peace… (James 3:13-18)
May this passage sink into our hearts tonight, so that we may grasp the depth of God's spiritual wisdom and put it into practice.
Lots of Love
Tehillah
