Bloom Blissfully: Honouring the body by being grounded in Christ

Hey Ladies,

As I was reading Matthew 5:3-16, 29-30, and 1 Corinthians 13:7-17 today, our Heavenly Father reminded me about the importance of the Body of Christ. The Body of Christ is a metaphor used to refer to all the believers in Christ, all over the world. The foundation, which is Christ Himself, is the most important part of the Body and therefore the Body should always be grounded and rooted within Christ.

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ...(1 Corinthians 3:11)

It is so important to honor the body of Christ and to see that it needs to function together, in unity. We are all different parts of His body and yet, we have an equally important role to play. A body cannot function properly without lungs, as the lungs’ main function is the process of gas exchange. We inhale oxygen, which enters our bloodstream in order to nourish our whole body- cells, tissue, and organs. In exchange, we exhale carbon dioxide- the waste created by our cells- to make space for the nourishment of the oxygen. One thing to remember is that the lungs cannot function on their own as they are of no use without the heart. Thus, it is crucial for the heart and lungs to work together.

…For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care…(1 Corinthians 3:9-10)

Paul explicitly writes that we are all co-workers of Christ (meaning we are different parts of the body) that need to build on His firm foundation. We all need to work together to build His kingdom. Building together requires sacrifice. We need to sacrifice our own desires and wills, leaving us laying bare before God and others to be used for the good of His Kingdom.

(Matthew 5: 29-30: If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.)

It isn’t always easy to lay down our own lives and be selfless, but we should always remember that every small act of obedience will be blessed. Jesus isn’t afraid to bless His children in abundance, no matter what circumstances you find yourself in:

"...Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.11"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for, in the same way, they persecuted the prophets who were before you..."

(Matthew 5:3-12)

Tonight, I want to challenge you, ladies, to answer these simple questions:

1. How much am I willing to sacrifice for others in order to keep the body strong and healthy?

2. Am I willing to help my brother or sister in need to really show Jesus’ love towards them? 3. What is my purpose within His body and am I doing everything in my power to lay a firm foundation in Christ and building on it according to God’s standards?

May we all see and experience that we play a valuable and vital role in the Body of Christ. May our Heavenly Father reveal to us His beautiful and firmly structured foundation so that we can grow deeper into His love and His divine purpose for our lives.

Lots of Love,

Tehillah

xx
